Since the nor'easter of December 1993, D&M has been at the forefront of disaster recovery providing restoration services every day, round the clock. In 2001, D&M was part of the Disaster Recovery Team for The Bank of New York which transformed a vacant building in Pleasantville, NY into a functional office complex and data center to house employees displaced by the terror attacks on 9/11. D&M installed several tractor trailer loads of telephone poles, constructed an overhead distribution system and installed parking lot and site lighting in just one week. Finishing ahead of schedule our excavation equipment and operators were pressed into service to create a parking lot for employees.
In 2011, Hurricane Irene pounded the Northeast. D&M line crews were dispatched to Connecticut to support Northeast Utilities on storm restoration efforts while D&M's inside wireman division was awarded an emergency contract for the City of Yonkers. The City's Water Treatment Plant had been flooded with 25 feet of water, destroying the main electrical switchgear and motor control centers. D&M replaced nearly every component of the electrical service in just 5 days, mobilizing in nearly knee deep water as the last few feet of water was pumped out.
When Hurricane Sandy struck the Northeastern US, nearly 50 D&M employees from both the Electric and Utility Division worked 16 hour shifts, 7 days a week for nearly a month until all our clients were restored. The impact of Sandy forever changed the manner in which the industry prepares for and responds to these disasters.
